As the Director of Rawson St Kids and an educator for 23 years, I aim to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all children, families and educators, where we can work together to build a community that becomes more like a family.

Rawson St Kids Early is all about relationships with children and families as well as inspiring our children, families, educators, and community to strive for the best. To ensure every child feels safe, secure, to help them grow and develop and most importantly be themselves.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey in early childhood education?

I’ve been working in early childhood education for over 25 years and still love helping young children grow and thrive. I’m passionate about creating safe, nurturing spaces where kids feel supported and excited to learn. As a mum of three, I understand how important it is for families to trust the care their children receive. I’m grateful for the chance to make a difference every day

What inspired you to become the director of Rawson St Kids?

After 25 years in early childhood education, I was ready to step into a leadership role where I could support not just children, but educators, families, and the wider community. I was drawn to Rawson St Kids for its warm, inclusive feel and strong reputation for high-quality care. It's a beautiful, home-like Centre where relationships are at the heart of everything. I’m excited to help continue its wonderful legacy and support its future growth.

What is the core philosophy of Rawson St Kids?

At Rawson St Kids, we believe every child has unique potential to grow and thrive. Our mission, "Growing Minds, Shaping Futures," is about creating a close-knit, inclusive community where children feel they belong. We celebrate individuality, encourage creativity, and support wellbeing, family connections, and physical health in a safe, nurturing environment.

How do you ensure a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all children?

At Rawson St Kids, we create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every child feels at home. As a boutique Centre, we build strong relationships with families, celebrate diversity, and offer engaging, thoughtfully designed spaces. Our passionate educators ensure every child grows with confidence and a true sense of belonging.

What role do play-based learning and exploration have in your curriculum?

At Rawson St Kids, we use play-based learning to spark children’s creativity, curiosity, and confidence. Through fun and exploration, our educators help kids build key skills like problem-solving, communication, and teamwork.

Rawson St Kids is known for its strong community involvement. Why is this important to you?

Community is at the heart of Rawson St Kids. We believe strong connections between children, families, educators, and the wider community create a real sense of belonging. Through local events, cultural celebrations, and everyday interactions, we help children feel supported, valued, and part of something bigger.

Can you share a memorable moment from a community collaboration, like Grandparents Day or visits to Collective Cafe?

We love connecting with our community. Visits to Collective Café and Hall & Prior Aged Care help our children build confidence, kindness, and social skills. Sharing babycinos and handmade gifts has created special memories and taught the children the joy of caring for others.

Can you share a memorable moment from a community collaboration, like Grandparents Day or visits to Collective Cafe?

How do you support children’s transitions, whether it’s starting childcare or moving on to school?

We make big transitions, like starting childcare or moving to school, smooth and positive. We build strong relationships, offer orientation visits, and focus on confidence, independence, and school-readiness through fun and play — always working closely with families every step of the way.

What role do families play in your Centre?

Families are at the heart of everything we do. We value open communication, welcome family involvement, and work together to support each child’s growth, needs, and interests, creating a strong, connected community.

What do you look for in an educator at Rawson St Kids?

We value passionate educators who understand child development, build strong relationships, communicate well, work as a team, and are committed to ongoing learning. Their care and dedication make our centre a special place for children and families.

What do you love most about being the Director of Rawson St Kids?

I love making a positive impact on children, families, and educators. It's rewarding to lead a passionate team in a close-knit community where we all work together to nurture children’s growth. Building strong relationships with families and seeing children thrive is what makes this role so fulfilling.

As a director and parent, I know how important it is to feel confident your child is in a safe, loving space.
