Understanding the 3-Day Guarantee

Starting January 2026, more families will be eligible for three days of subsidised early childhood education—regardless of whether they meet the current Child Care Subsidy (CCS) activity test.

This major update, called the 3-Day Guarantee, marks one of the most significant changes to CCS since it was introduced. For families who previously qualified for just one subsidised day, this could make a big difference.

What Is the 3-Day Guarantee?

The 3-Day Guarantee means eligible families will receive up to 72 hours of subsidised early learning per fortnight—equivalent to around three days a week in most long day care centres.

Right now, families who don’t meet the CCS activity test can only access 24 subsidised hours per fortnight, which is about one day per week.

But from January 2026, that’s changing. Even if you're not currently working, studying, or volunteering enough to meet the activity test, you'll still be able to access more affordable care and greater support.
